Overview:
Written to provide both presentation material and support handouts / online content, this site covers the basics of HTML and CSS as applied to document layout, rather than the traditional use on a web site. The lectures this material supports come as part of a general Communications Skills module taught to first year undergraduate students in the school of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. In the years 2002 and 2003 I covered the topics over 1 lecture and a lab session while in 2004 I taught 2 lectures instead. Students were expected to prepare an essay on one of the topics within the Communications Skills module using HTML and CSS for layout.
